Dimona MKII
My main hobby is building and flying model planes. This picture (shot by my wife) shows the last plane I built this year, a Dimona MKII (Wing span of 5,85 meters, weight: 23 kilos, powered by a 45 c.c engine having a power of 4,5 BHP) at the scale of 1/3rd. It took me about 500 hours to build it. I thought I would share with you my other passion. Have a nice sunday. Richard

WOW... sounds like fun! I like the colors in this photo!
richard standley: Thanks Helen. Yes it's great fun
Do these fly by remote control? That's a very serious hobby and an interesting one.
richard standley: Yes Mary it flies by remote control. Very interesting time cosumong hobby
Gee, that must have been a hard choice, Now do I let her take the pic or would I trust her with the controls of the plane. Hehe.
She took a nice shot of your other hobby.
richard standley: Thank you very much for her Aussie
Fantastic shot taken by a woman I see.
I love watching model aircraft. You are a man of many talents Richard.
richard standley: Thanks a lot for the nice compliment Tracy
C'est super !! Et quelle patience !! J'adorerais faire des maquettes mais je crais de ne pas être assez patiente donc...Faites-vous principalement des avions ?
richard standley: Merci Florence. Oui je ne fais que des avions. C'est une passion qui dure depuis 40 ans.
Wow! Richard, this must be a very expensive passion to maintain. But the result I imagine to very have to be been thankful. Ahhh! It congratulates to your wife by the good photo!
richard standley: Yes it is a very expensive passion, but so rewarding. I try and build one plane per year. Thanks for the compliment to my wife

richard standley: Yes very difficult but so interesting Fabrizio. Thanks for compliment
You actually build that?? Wow now that's what I call dedication. Nice shot.
richard standley: Thanks Scarlet. Yes I built that plane and so many others
I like that you included the shadow in the shot. This is huge for a model plane! I can't imagine how many hours you must have put into building this.
richard standley: Thanks Martin. As you say it's huge and so long to build. But at the end it's very rewarding and so pleasant to fly
Wow! (on all counts) (:o)
richard standley: Thanks a lot Rosalyn
Richard, I am astonished at the size of this. How did you get into this hobby? And where do you keep that huge plane. Wow.
richard standley: Thanks for stopping by Kathryn. I got into this hobby 40 years ago when I was a teenager in Madagascar. I store my planes in a large garage, the wings being taken apart.
Wow.. Clever chap arn't you. Airfix is my level... !! Where can i see your aircraft .. is there a show or the likes in the east anglia area? I would love to see them. :o0 John
richard standley: Thanks John. I live in France but I am sure that there are model planes clubs in your area. Please visit the British Model Flying Association site by clicking on the following link, they will be able to help you:

23 kilos?
Richard, I'll be ready and waiting at 6am tomorrow morning for a flight!
Hey, I'll even buy the breakfast ha ha
richard standley: You're welcome Paul. Thanks for the breakfast!
Great hobbie, I flew control line planes when l was kid but that is a new dimension, its huge
richard standley: A great hobbie indeed.
