I am so very sorry to hear this news, I only thought yesterday about how Richard was getting on, he was a very good online friend to many of us on Shutterchance and won't be forgotten.

I often thought of Richard, I knew that he was a very courageous man battling against cancer. And he was a great photographer, I'll never forget his wonderful flower images from his garden -and his kind words in French. I am very sorry to hear that he now passed away. Je voudrais exprimer mes condoléances, aussi pour sa famille.

I never met Richard, but only communicated with him on SC, and, as Brian has said, he was a good "online friend" and a fine man, who won't be forgotten.

Oh Dear! This is so sad! Richard was a fine friend on this photoblogging site, a very good photographer, and one of my earliest Buddies. He was always encouraging, and he certainly helped me to improve my photography skills.

Richard and I often discussed similarities between Madagascar [from his childhood], and Thailand [where I have lived for many years], and wondered if there might have been ancient connections.

Richard will be missed, but will certainly not be forgotten. A lovely man.

Oh cher! C'est tellement triste! Richard était un bon ami sur ce site de photoblogging, un très bon photographe et l'un de mes premiers amis. Il était toujours encourageant, et il m'a certainement aidé à  améliorer mes compétences en photographie.

Richard et moi avons souvent discuté des similitudes entre Madagascar [de son enfance] et la Thaïlande [où j'ai vécu pendant de nombreuses années], et je me demandais s'il pouvait y avoir des liens anciens.

Richard sera manqué, mais ne sera certainement pas oublié. Un homme charmant.

This is very sad news and my condolences go to his family who I know meant so much to him.

I never had the pleasure of meeting Richard but I enjoyed our "Saturday strolls" and his lovely garden.

Nous avions pris de nombreuses promenades du samedi matin à  travers ce média.

Hallo Ann - it must be you who took the time in these sad times to inform his Shutterchance friends of his passing. With such an emotive picture of our dear friend, walking into the mist ( which must be) somewhere along the French coast. Thank you and it is a wonderful way to do it.

I know you and the family will sorely miss Daddy, because I know how close you were from the way he carried you all in his heart.

Even if it was over a distance, I feel that we were friends. He was such an open man, with time for his fellow people. I remember in 2012, when I made a connecting flight at Charles de Gaulle, that he wanted to come and meet me. This never happened, because I had to move right across that huge airport, with less than 90 minutes before my airplane for Johannesburg left. I still regret that it was not possible.

Then there were the times that we exchanged information about South Africa, whenever there was occasion for him to remember the time he spent here.

Ah, there are so many other things to remember him as I sit here with tears in my eyes. I remember so many of his pictures, that he shared and somewhere there was a dog named Aston. I will not forget Richard.

Mes sincères condoléances, avec votre perte d'un homme très gentil. Je me souviendrai toujours de lui.

Richard was so kind - and in addition to his lovely photos and kind commentary - I will always remember his remote control airplane!! What fun that must have been!

Our children, grand children and myself thank you all for your messages. Its a blessing that Richard was so much appreciated. All your names are familiar, because Richard liked to speak about you and your photographs, ans he shared them with us.
For his last ceremony we showed his photographs, which was the best way for us to speak about him.
This photograph, for this article, was taken in 2015 in the island of Ouessant in Brittany.
We miss him very much.
Nos enfants, nos petits enfants et moi même vous remercions chaleureusement pour vos messages.C'est un réconfort de savoir que Richard était si apprécié de vous tous.
Tous vos noms sont familiers car Richard nous faisait partager vos photos et parlait souvent de vous.
Pour ses funérailles nous avons projeté des photos de lui, intercalées entre des photos prises par lui. C'était pour nous la meilleure façon de parler de lui.
Il nous manque terriblement.

Je reviens de Ouaga où j'ai passé plus d'un mois près de ma fille qui vient d'avoir un BB et je passais te faire un petit coucou et prendre de tes nouvelles... et quel choc!! Je suis attristée de cette terrible nouvelle... Nous avons échangé de nombreuses années sur nos blogs et plus encore, tu nous as soutenue dans nos actions pour le Burkina en achetant fidèlement mes petits agendas annuels... Tu étais là  aussi qd je suis passée par les sombres jours de cette p..... de maladie. Preuve qu'on peut tisser des liens sur la toile et ça je ne l’oublierais pas. Je présente toutes mes condoléances et mes pensées amicales à  ta famille. RIP dear Richard...
